Mr. Nikita Khrushchev told West German journalists in Moscow on May 5 that the Soviet Union believed a speedy Summit Conference was desirable even if the Geneva Foreign Ministers’ Conference did not make any remarkable progress. Mr. Khrushchev was asked if any action would be taken in Berlin in the event of long negotiations in Geneva. The Soviet Premier told the journalists it was not just a question of Berlin. The Soviet Union was interested in a peace treaty under present conditions, probably with the two German States.
