Two samples from Bangalore sent for lab testing

NEW DELHI: The Union government on Thursday said India continued to be free from A-H1N1 influenza with 24 cases testing negative for the flu, while reports of two cases from Bangalore were awaited.
The two, admitted to an identified health facility, arrived in Bangalore on Wednesday with some flu-like symptoms. They were taken to the hospital and their throat swabs sent for testing to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) here and the Pune-based National Institute of Virology.
As many as 35,403 passengers – 6009 from the flu-affected countries — were screened since Wednesday at 21 international airports. Over 178 doctors and 87 paramedical staff were manning the 70 counters across the country.
Meanwhile, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) as many as 2,099 laboratory confirmed cases of A-H1N1 flu have been confirmed in 23 countries, with the number of deaths touching 44.
In Mexico, 42 deaths had occurred because of the flu and 1,112 people are affected. In the United States, 642 people are affected while two have died.
