BANGALORE: Wipro on Thursday launched a product qualification and compliance certification facility, Tarang, within its campus. The investment in this facility would be close to $8.5 million. Inaugurating the facility, former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam remarked that such tested products would give Indian companies a competitive edge when the global economy turned around. Compliance with internationally acceptable standards and designs born from thinking out-of-the box would drive further growth. He was happy to note that testing for defence equipment would be a feature. Third party testing would show Wipro’s strength. Wipro Chairman Azim Premji said the company was steadily increasing capital expenditure and revenue spending on R& D. While R&D spending overall was low in India, it was gratifying to note that many younger and smaller companies were spending more, he said. Joint CEO (IT Business) Girish Paranjpe explained that Tarang would offer consultancy, pre-compliance testing and certification services for various geographies. The facility was equipped to test electronic products in aerospace, automotive, computing, consumer electronics, medical electronics and telecommunication industries. Tarang had an ISO certification and it was the only accredited agency in India with capability to test up to 40 GHz, he said.
