Rajesh in lead

HYDERABAD: Top seed and FIDE-master V.A.V. Rajesh emerged sole leader with 7.5 points outwitting R. Easwar on the top board in the eighth round of the A2H all-India FIDE-rating chess tournament at VNR VJIT here on Thursday.

Rajesh, playing with black, employed the King’s Indian Defence to get the better of his opponent in 40 moves.

Important results: Eighth round: R. Easwar (6.5) lost to V.A.V. Rajesh (7.5); Pradip Tiwari (6.5) drew with M.Y. Raju (6.5); L. Sandeep Naidu (7) bt S.V.C. Chakravarthi (6); S.K. Saidulu (6) lost to K.S. Anand Reddy (7); S. Chiman Prakash Reddy (5.5) lost to C.R.G. Krishna (6.5); B. Krishnaprasad (6) drew with K. Srikanth (6); J.V. Saikiran (6.5) bt M. Gopinath (5); G.V. Revanth Reddy (5) lost to Uttam Sarker (6); P. Ramakrishna (6) bt Y. Sai Akshay (5); L. Danunjay Rao (6) bt Raghav Srivathsav (5).

Royal Club scores win

Royal Club scored a 2-1 win over Osmania University in the A-2 Division hockey league championship at Gymkhana Grounds here.

Centre-forward Sambasiva Rao and right-out Srikanth scored for the winners. Right-in Sai Kiran reduced the margin.

Teja shines

Teja of Arshad Ayub Cricket Academy claimed a double hat-trick without giving away any run in the under-12 category of the 10th Boston Cup inter-schools cricket tournament at Sports Coaching Foundation (Masab Tank) here.

The scores: Under-12: Arshad Ayub CA 70 for two bt Tulsi High School 40 (Teja six for zero).

Under-14: Sujatha Public School 63 for six lost to Progress High School 64 for four (Mazhar 33).

Chess tournament
