Party’s SC leader G. Vijayarama Rao sounded for Speaker post TRS also keen on ministerial berths in the coalition government HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao had to play a wait and watch game during the last two days of his stay in New Delhi as leaders of national parties were busy with the fourth and upcoming fifth phases of elections. Mr. Rao who left here for the national capital on Wednesday evening with fond hopes of meeting leaders of various parties ahead of counting of votes had to be content with drawing up strategies for the party in the event of a hung Assembly. Sources said Mr. Rao was focussed on conditions that the TRS could impose in return for extending support to the party that was within the striking distance of coming to power. It was stated that he discussed with his colleagues the need for TRS to claim the post of Speaker in the new Assembly. The post of Speaker was crucial for TRS in the backdrop of several desertions from the party in the present Assembly. Mr. Rao was said to have taken stock of the Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy’s tendency to go slow on MLAs of TRS who severed links with the party. Sources added that Mr. Rao had even sounded out former TRS leader in Assembly G. Vijayarama Rao to be prepared to take over as Speaker should the choice fall on the party. Mr. Vijayarama Rao would also be acceptable to many parties as he belonged to Scheduled Caste community. The TRS was keen on Speakership in addition to Ministerial berths in a coalition government as the party could take credit if a resolution on separate Telangana was moved in the House. Camp on May 16Meanwhile, the TRS office here is being equipped with additional facilities in view of the proposed camp for candidates who contested elections from May 16 when the counting of votes would be taken up. A 125 kv generator was installed besides air-conditioning all the 46 rooms in the premises.
