Kelasoor (CHAMARAJANAGAR DISTRICT): Sri Bhattaraka Swamiji of Kanakagiri Kshetra has said that the renovation of 14th century Chandra Prabha Jina Basadi of the Eighth Thirthankara would be taken up at a cost of Rs. 3 crore at Kelasoor in Gundlupet taluk. The swamiji told The Hindu that the Kanakagiri Trust in association with Sri Kshetra Dharmasthana Trust would take up the renovation work. He said the Dharmasthana Trust had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Muzurai Department to develop the dilapidated temples with archaeological and monumental value in the State. The swamiji said a proposal had been sent to the department seeking its share of 40 per cent funds to renovate the basadi. He said the Dharmastana Trust would provide 40 per cent funds and the remaining 20 per cent funds would be given by the Kanakagiri Trust. He said Veerasenacharya, who wrote “Dhavala”, worshipped Chandra Prabha Jina at Kelasoor. Kelasoor was called Udhyogapura in the past. He said Kelasoor had great prominence for its culture and tradition in Jain literature. Bhattaraka Swamiji said a foundation stone would be laid on Sunday to mark the launch of the renovation work. A “jatra mohotsav” had been organised on Sunday.
