Highest pass percentage posted by Kannur
Official release: Minister for Education M.A. Baby releasing the CD of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination results in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. — THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A total of 91.92 percent of the candidates passed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination for 2008-09, the results of which were announced here by Education Minister M.A. Baby on Friday. The pass percentage shows a marginal decline of 0.17 per cent from the previous year. “The variation in results is not due to any external influence as alleged by a section of the media,” Mr. Baby said. “The results are as genuine as my grizzly beard,” he told mediapersons with a smile. Out of the 4,46,5544 students who appeared for this year’s examination, 4, 10,384 students became eligible for higher studies. As many as 7,073 candidates secured A+ grade for all the 10 subjects. A total of 24,600 students secured A and 54,992 students received B+ grades. The following are the remaining grades: B (10,2697), C+ (17,2983), C (27, 8248), D+ (41,0348), D (34, 536) and E (222). Among the Scheduled Caste candidates, 147 secured A+ for all subjects. Three Scheduled Tribe candidates got A+. Thrissur boasted the highest number of students with A+ for all subjects (402). While Kannur came top with the highest pass percentage at 96.83, the lowest was recorded in Palakkad, 84.02 per cent. As many as 703 schools secured 100 per cent results. The district with the maximum candidates was Malappuram (70,508), the lowest was Wayanad (10,005). St. Mary’s HSS, Pattom, had the maximum number of candidates (1,389). Technical troublesThe results of around 30 students had been withheld due to technical reasons such as error in registration number on the answer sheet. “The withheld results will be announced in consultation with parents of the candidates at the earliest,” Mr. Baby said. CertificatesThe distribution of hologram embossed SSLC certificates, complete with photographs of the candidates, will be distributed to the students before May 18. Candidates who failed to clear the examination can appear for the Save-a-Year examination scheduled to be held from May 19 to May 23.
