CHENNAI: A special team of the Crime Branch CID arrested a suspect involved in the MSN/Yahoo online lottery scam in Mumbai, late on Thursday night. According to sources, K. Ramamoorthy of Kalpakkam lodged a complaint on December 11, 2008, alleging that he had received e-mails from ‘MSN/Yahoo Lottery Award’ congratulating him for winning an online lottery worth Rs.4 crore during December 2007. He was made to remit Rs. 14.68 lakh as service and transfer charges in various accounts given by the accused through e-mails. After getting the money, the accused neither gave him the prize nor refunded his money. The Cyber Crime Cell of CBCID registered a case under various provisions of the IPC. Investigation revealed that 10 accounts were opened at different branches of two private banks in Mumbai. The team visited Mumbai early this month and during the course of investigation one of the account holders A. Mukesh Anand Chudasama (42) of Indralok Complex, New Golden Nest Road, Bhayander-East, Thane (Maharashtra) was arrested on Thursday. Investigators said the accused got Rs.50,000 as his share in the scam. Documents pointing to his involvement in the cheating case were seized. A search was on to locate other suspects involved in the case. The agency arrested Stephen alias Vijay Stephen in March in connection with the fraud. Mukesh Anand Chudasama was produced before a Thane court and remanded to judicial custody, the sources added.
