KOLLAM: Private bus operators in the district have threatened to stop operating services from next month if the City Corporation continues to prevent buses to operate from the Chinnakada clock tower bus stand. This was announced at a press conference here on Saturday by Lawrence Babu, general secretary of the Quilon District Private Bus Operators Association. He said the bus stand in question was closed in December last year to facilitate the construction of an underpass through the Chinnakada overbridge. Following the closure, the bus operators were asked to use the facility at the Andamukham private bus stand situated a little away from Chinnakada. The change has created a lot of hardship to the travelling public. The closure of the clock tower bus stand has virtually resulted in passengers losing a convenient point at Chinnakada to board buses bound for Kottiyam, Eravipuram and Mayyanad . He said that even after a lapse of five months, the work on the underpass had not started.
