KOCHI: It was all drama at the labour protection convention held by the Malayalam Cinema Technicians Association (MACTA) Federation at A.J. Hall here on Saturday. The convention was to be inaugurated by the former Supreme Court judge V.R. Krishna Iyer. But he turned up only to tell the crowd that he had been warned about a controversy about the meeting in court and was declaring that he was not part of the inauguration or any other part of the meeting. He then inaugurated the meeting formally before leaving the venue. In his presidential address, film director and chairman of MACTA Federation Vinayan said work on the first film out of five to be produced by the federation would start in June or July. He said three actors would be introduced through these films, to be produced with participation of the public. The officials of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) were discouraging producers who had come forward to produce films with new subjects, Mr. Vinayan alleged.
