CPI(M) Secretariat meet has not discussed issue: Viswan

“No criticisms made against VS at meet”

“No rift within

CPI(M) over party’s

official stance

on Pinarayi”

Kozhikode: Left Democratic Front (LDF) convener Vaikom Viswan has said the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has not given a thought to removing Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan from the post.

He told presspersons here on Saturday that the CPI(M) State Secretariat meeting on Friday had not discussed any such matter. No one who took part in the deliberations at the meeting had made any criticisms against the Chief Minister, Mr.Viswan said.

The meeting had discussed the issue regarding the United Democratic Front (UDF) leaders meeting Governor R. K. Gavai. To a query, he said there was nothing wrong in the CPI Ministers meeting the Chief Minister. The media had come out with reports on Friday that the CPI(M) secretariat meeting had made demands asking Mr. Achuthanandan to step down over his stand on the SNC Lavalin case. Mr. Viswan said there was no difference of opinion within the CPI(M) on the official stance of the party against prosecuting State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in the SNC Lavalin case. He said the party would fight the Lavalin case “legally and politically.”

UDF pressure?

The Congress-led UDF leaders were exerting pressure on a constitutional establishment, he said.

Mr. Viswan was in the city to inaugurate the two-day State conference of the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers at the NGO Union hall. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister arrived in the city on Saturday noon. However, he refused to talk to the media on the reported issue.
