Residents of K. Poosaripatti block Maharakadai Road on Sunday with empty pots demanding regular supply of drinking water. – KRISHNAGIRI: Residents of K. Poojaripatti staged blocked Maharajakadai road demanding regular water supply and increase in the supply hours on Sunday. About 200 people, including 100 women and children, assembled on the road with empty pots. They complained that they were not getting proper water supply for the last six months. G. Suresh, village leader, told The Hindu that people were suffering and several complaints to the authorities went in vain. He said drinking water is being supplied from an overhead tank in their village. Water is pumped from the Malakuppam pump house, 1 km away from the village. Out of the 250 houses, only 20 to 25 house owners got house connection. Others were depending on the 15 public taps provided by the civic authorities. They said it was not adequate. Water released from the tank did not reached everyone. Only about 100 houses near the tank were getting water. “Two years back pipe lines were changed by the civic authorities, but that too have not yielded any result,” said Mr. Suresh. Krishnagiri tahsildar R. Muniraj alongwith revenue officials and the police rushed to the spot and pacified the people.
