Need for medical clearance for athletes

NEW DELHI: Sudden cardiac death among athletes is a rare but devastating event, according to Dr. K .K .Aggarwal, president of Heart Care Foundation of India. Speaking at a workshop organised here this past week, Dr. Aggarwal quoting guidelines from American Heart Association said children and young athletes need to be cleared medically before undergoing athletic training. “The most common cause of death among athletes under the age of 35 is underlying congenital heart disease and for those above 35, it is coronary arterial blockage.”
