ANANTAPUR: Three persons were killed and nine were seriously injured when a Scorpio collided with a lorry coming in the opposite direction near Mudigubba in Anantapur district on Sunday. Of the three persons killed, two were charred to death due to leakage of gas from the compressor of the air-conditioning system in the vehicle. The condition of three injured persons was stated to be critical and was referred to the general hospital at Kurnool, while remaining six were admitted in the general hospital here. On pilgrimageAccording to the police, the family of Congress leader from Ambakapalle village in Lingala mandal of Kadapa district, Muralikrishna Reddy, and his relatives from Nallapareddypalli in Pulivendula mandal were returning from a pilgrimage to Shirdi when the accident occurred. A lorry belonging to Tamil Nadu rammed into their vehicle near a microwave repeater tower outside Mudigubba village on NH-205. Ten of the victims escaped unhurt. The dead persons include driver Shekhar Reddy (35) and Muralikrishna Reddy’s son Akash Reddy (12) were burnt alive. One Padmavathi (30) died on way to hospital. The injured were rushed to the RDT hospital at Bathalapalli. Among the injured were Muralikrishna Reddy’s wife Padmavathi, his younger son Tejeswar Reddy, T. Rami Reddy, T. Raghava Reddy, T. Nageshwari, T. Anasuya, Shashi and Vamshikrishna.
