Last ditch effort to woo voters in Ramnad and Sivaganga

ALL FOR POLLS: An election campaign in progress in Ramanathapuram.

SIVAGANGA / RAMANATHAPURAM: With the countdown has begun for voting, the political parties and their candidates engaged themselves in a last ditch effort to woo voters in Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts.

Union Minister P. Chidambaram, who is contesting from the Sivaganga constituency, has undertaken a hectic campaign in Karaikudi, Sakkottai and nearby areas. He asked the people to vote for him for the personal contribution as Member of Parliament to the development of the constituency and the contribution to the country as Finance and Home Minister. He assured the voters that he would continue to maintain probity in public life and serve the constituency and the country.

The Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister G.K. Vasan, DMK Rajya Sabha MP M.K. Kanimozhi and others have so far campaigned for Mr. Chidambaram. The Congress and the DMK cadres took out a cycle rally to seek vote for him in Karaikudi and other parts on Sunday.

His rival R.S. Rajakannappan of the AIADMK toured Ilayankudi and nearby areas to woo the voters as a last ditch effort. He appealed to the voters to vote for him for a change and the future development of the constituency. Cadres of the AIADMK, the MDMK, the CPI, the CPI (M) and others took out rallies for him at several areas. AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, CPI national secretary D. Raja, CPI (M) polit bureau member Brinda Karat and others campaigned in the district on various dates.

The film directors led by Bharati Raja and Seeman campaigned for him.

The DMDK candidate Barvatha Regina Pappa also engaged in final effort to get the support for her candidature. She appealed to the people to think twice before casting their votes and support the DMDK for a true change in the state as well as nation. The DMDK founder president Vijaykant campaigned for her in April itself.

Ramanathapuram

In Ramanathapuram constituency, the DMK candidate J.K. Ritheesh on Sunday toured various parts in Kamudhi to seek votes. Though there were no stalwarts campaigned for him, he visited several parts of the constituency with the support of local leaders. AIADMK candidate V. Sathiamoorthy met people in and around Ramanathapuram seeking their support. Besides the campaign of Ms. Jayalalithaa, he successfully brought a host of actors, including S.S. Chandiran, Vindhiya and Visu for campaign.

The BJP candidate S. Thirunavukkarasar toured Karipatti areas in Virudhunagar district on Sunday. BJP leaders L.K. Advani, Venkaiah Naidu and several others sought votes for him.

DMDK candidate Singai Jinna, BSP candidate Priscilla Pandian also met the people in various parts to seek votes.
