Solution to Tamils issue only through dialogue, says Uma Bharti

CHENNAI: Bharatiya Janshakti president Uma Bharti on Sunday said a solution to the Sri Lankan Tamils issue could be found only through dialogue.

Speaking to presspersons, she dismissed a suggestion by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general Secretary Jayalalithaa to send the Indian Army to Sri Lanka as the Sri Lankan government was competent enough to fight against its own problem. “We have to have some kind of dialogue to put an end to the atrocities. Racial discrimination should not be there and the Indian government should take a tough decision,” she added.

Ms. Bharti gave a call to the Union government and human rights organisations in the world to come forward and protect the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

“We should provide them shelter. But they should be protected well in their country itself; we should help Sri Lanka in that. My party and the whole country are concerned about it,” she said.

Asked to comment on the creation of separate Eelam, she said “Ms. Jayalalithaa was making a statement because Tamil people living here are concerned about Tamils living there. Even I am worried about people living there. It is an internal problem. As a person of this country, I will not intervene in their internal matter. But, I will speak against the atrocities being done on Tamil people there.”

Expressing her support for L.K. Advani, Ms. Bharti said the public was against the Congress as the party had failed to control inflation, price rise and counter terrorism.
