Corrections and clarifications

* * The Turkish President is Abdullah Gül. The sixth paragraph of a report, “Obama to address Muslims from Egypt” (May 11, 2009), had it as “Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan”. Recep Tayyip Erdogan is the Turkish Prime Minister.

* * The twelfth paragraph of a report “Fighter all his life” (May 10, 2009) was “In 2008 he [Jacob Zuma] trounced former comrade Mr. Mbeki in the contest for ANC presidentship.” Jacob Zuma became the new president of the African National Congress at the party’s conference in Polokwane on December 18, 2007. Thabo Mbeki received 1,505 votes and Zuma 2,329 votes.

* * It’s Air Marshal (retd) O.P. Mehra. The photocaption in a report “Pakistani scholar says her country must be helped” (May 9, 2009) gave it as Air Marshal O.P. Mehra.

* * The caption of a standalone combo photograph (“Elections 2009” page, May 9, 2009) titled “Gestures and expressions Women and electioneering” was left out in the Chennai city and Hyderabad city editions because of a “system error”. It should have read: “(Clockwise from top left) Uma Bharati, Jayalalithaa, Brinda Karat, Mayawati, Sonia Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee and Vasundhara Raje. Photos: Subir Roy, M. Srinath, S. James and PTI.”
