ODA troupe to present on inaugural day

Kathak dance to be a part of the programmes

BHUBANESWAR: The special silver jubilee edition of the annual dance festival of the city-based Orissa Dance Academy (ODA) will be under way at Rabindra Mandap in the capital from May 24 to 26.

Academy secretary and Odissi dancer Aruna Mohanty said that the leading dance institution that was founded by Odissi guru Gangadhar Pradhan turned 40 this year, while its annual dance festival would be 25-year-old soon.

Solo dance

A 40-minute film on ODA will be screened during the inaugural evening, while an exhibition of photographs -- Journey of Odissi – would also be put up on the occasion, she said. The Central Sangeet Natak Akademi was supporting the festival, she added.

The inaugural evening would witness Navarasa (nine sentiments), a group dance presentation by the ODA troupe. While guru Gangadhar Pradhan choreographed it for solo dancing, his prime disciple and choreographer Aruna Mohanty had put in into group format.

It would be followed by Kathak dance recital by the New Delhi based Kathak Kendra.

Krishna Leela

The festival aims at presenting glimpses of ODA’s achievements and accordingly the second and third evenings would be devoted to its own artistes and productions, said Mohanty.

The ODA artistes would stage Krishna Leela describing different episodes from the life of the mythical character of Krisnha on the second evening, while the concluding evening would have choreographic works of guru Gangadhar Pradhan, Aruna Mohanty, Manoranjan Pradhan and Pabitra Pradhan, all involved in teaching and choreography at the ODA.
