A mega two-day religious event from tomorrow

150 to 200 Vedic scholars and priests are expected to participate


Special yagam being performed for the welfare of people, says corporator

Sevas Maharshi of Kanakadurga temple will supervise the two-day event


VIJAYAWADA: As many as 12 kinds of yagams, homams and other kinds of religious ceremonies will be performed simultaneously at a special event being organised on a one-acre site at Chettu Centre in Payakapuram on May 13 and 14.

Corporator P. Gowtham Reddy told reporters on Monday that the special yagam was being held for the welfare of the people, for fulfilment of their wishes and seeking timely rains.

The event, which would begin at 5 a.m. on May 13, would witness performing of Lakshmi ganapati yagam, Navagraha japam, Sudarsana homam, Ashtakshari homam, Srirudram, Abhishekam with Pasupata mantram, Satachandi homam, Dattatreya moola mantra havanam, recitation of important hymns from all the four Vedas, Suryanamaskarams, Aruna parayanam and Mahasoura yagam.

As many as 150 to 200 scholars and priests were expected to participate in the event.

Ministers Kanna Lakshminarayana and Mandali Buddha Prasad, besides Bhuvaneswari Peethadhipathi Prakasananda Bharathi Swamy, Satyananda Bharathi Swamy from the same peetham and Ashtakshari Sampatkumara Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar, would be gracing the occasion at 10 a.m. on May 14. The first day’s event would be from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m., while on the second day it would begin at 7 a.m. and continue till 7 p.m.

Mr. Reddy said Sevas Maharshi of Kanakadurga temple would be supervising the two-day event, while logistics were being taken care of by freedom fighter Avvas Appa Rao, president of Mutyalampadu Saibaba temple committee N.B. Sankara Rao, Vishnu Sahasranama committee convenor M. Srihari and local corporator Jana Reddy.
