Susmita finishes 18th

NEW DELHI: Susmita Singha Roy performed well below par while finishing 18th in a field of 27 in the Multistars, an IAAF Combined Events Challenge meet, at Desenzano, Italy, on Sunday.

She compiled 5366 points in heptathlon as against her personal best of 6027 points, achieved while qualifying for the Beijing Olympics in the Combined Events National in Bangalore last year.

Susmita’s scores were: 14.42s (100m hurdles, 920), 1.69m (high jump, 842), 11.21m (shot put, 609), 24.98s (200m, 889), 5.88m (long jump, 813), 39.17m (javelin, 651) and 2:34.10 (800m, 642).

Briton Jessica Ennis, 23, scored 6587 points while winning the title. Hanna Melnychenko (Ukraine), with 6077, and Yuliya Tarasova (Uzbekistan), with 5989, finished with the silver and bronze.
