Bike-lifting racket busted, four held

Correspondent

CUTTACK: Personnel of the Cuttack Commissionerate on Tuesday busted an inter-district motorcycle-lifting racket and arrested four persons in this connection, including the kingpin.

The city police also seized four stolen motorcycles from their possession and were on the lookout for two more members of the racket.

“The Cantonment police arrested Papu alias Sk Niyakat Ali of Pension Lane of the city who was the kingpin of the racket”, said the city DCP Mr A N Sinha. It was revealed that Ali, with the help of two of his associates, lift the motorcycles from crowded parking zones of the city and sale them to prospective buyers outside the city at throwaway prices, Sinha added.

On the basis of statements obtained from Ali, police raided several hideouts in nearby Salepur and Nischintkoili areas of the district and arrested three buyers of the theft motorcycles.

Gautam Rout and Kedar Behera of Salepur and Tanmay Biswal of Nischintkoili were arrested and a stolen motorcycle each from their possession was seized, police said.
