97 zonal officers appointed to monitor proceedings Tirupur: All arrangements have been completed by the election administrators to ensure smooth and fair polls in Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency on May 13. Amid tight police security, Electronic Voting Machines kept at various storage points were dispatched to the 1,302 polling stations in Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday. Official sources said that each of the polling booths would have two ballot units and a control unit of the EVM. “Two ballot units will be used as number of candidates in the fray stand at 21 whereas a ballot unit can take in the names of only 16 candidates,” sources added. Similarly, other materials to be used at the polling stations such as forms, registers and other stationery too were transported to the polling booths. Official sources said that a total of 97 zonal officers had been appointed in Tirupur constituency to monitor the poll proceedings. “The zonal officers will evaluate the poll percentage every hour and pass the information simultaneously to the returning officer and the election cell established at the Collectorate,” sources added. Soon after the polling concluded, zonal officers would collect all the EVMs and other election materials in statutory and non-statutory covers before handing them back to the counting centre.
