Woman relieved of gold chain

CHENNAI: A septuagenarian was relieved of her seven-sovereign gold chain by a two-member gang in Valasaravakkam on Monday.

Police said the victim, Saroja (72), was alone at her house on Jawaharlal Nehru Street in Valasaravakkam when the suspects came in the guise of prospective tenants and wanted to check the first floor which the family had planned to let out.

As the woman was trying to explain the facilities in the building, one of the accused wrapped her face with a cloth. In less than a minute, Saroja fell unconscious. When she regained senses a couple of hours later, her gold chain was missing.

The Valasaravakkam police are investigating.
