Kancheepuram
enlightenment: Staff receiving calls and clarifying doubts of polling duty officials at a call centre set up at the Collectorate in Kancheepuram on Tuesday. — KANCHEEPURAM: The District Election Wing, Kancheepuram, has taken steps to ensure that majority of personnel posted for election duty in the district received the “duty order” in time. According to the Collector and District Election Officer, Santosh K. Misra, the personnel have been sent SMS regarding details of poll duty, with the help of the Chennai Corporation. Disclosing this here on Tuesday, he said that the Chennai Corporation had developed a software using which messages indicating polling station and polling duty designation could be sent to the personnel drawn for polling duty . The Kancheepuram District Election Wing sought the help of the Chennai Corporation Commissioner, Rajesh Lakhoni, who readily made arrangements to send SMS to the personnel. The messages carried polling duty details as per the data furnished by the Kancheepuram District Election Wing . Apart from this, the District Election Wing converted the Election Monitoring Centres (EMC), set up at the Kancheepuram Collectorate and the taluk office at Sriperumbudur as ‘Call Centres’ for polling duty personnel. Computers containing details about polling duty orders issued by the District Election Wing for around 15,000 personnel, were installed at the EMCs. Questions about location of polling station or poll duty designation were clarified immediately. Mr. Misra said that the EMC staff also cleared doubts about preparatory formalities to be completed by the polling duty staff, after consulting senior officials at the District Election Wing. The EMCs were set up to receive poll-related complaints from general public. Their numbers are as follows: Kancheepuram (Reserve) Lok Sabha constituency: Chengalpattu EMC – 27236511; Tiruporur EMC – 27236611; Cheyyur – 27236711; Madurantakam - 27236811; Uthiramerur – 27236911 and Kancheepuram - 27237211. For Sriperumpudur Lok Sabha seat: Maduravoyal – 27163511; Ambattur – 27163521; Alandur – 27163536; Sriperumpudur – 27163541; Pallavaram – 27163544 and Tambaram – 27163547.
