Ashok Chawla is Finance Secretary

NEW DELHI: Economic Affairs Secretary Ashok Chawla has been appointed Finance Secretary in the Finance Ministry with effect from Tuesday. The post of Finance Secretary fell vacant following the retirement of Arun Ramanathan on April 30.

Taking over as Finance Secretary, Mr. Chawla, a Gujarat cadre IAS officer (1973 batch), will also continue to hold the post of Secretary, Economic Affairs. According to an official statement here, he has also been given additional charge of the Department of Financial Services since May 1, 2009.
