War in Sri Lanka

The victory of the Sri Lankan army over the LTTE is written all over. The huge toll of civilian lives could have been avoided had the LTTE surrendered about three months ago. It was not fair to expect the Sri Lankan government to declare a ceasefire in the absence of unconditional surrender by the Tigers.

The Sri Lankan Tamils are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. While the security forces and the LTTE blame each other, the civilians continue to die in large numbers.
