KOCHI: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Deputy Inspector-General T.K. Vinod Kumar which is investigating charges of terrorist links in the State questioned People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Abdul Nasir Maudany at his residence on Masjid Road, Karukappally, on Wednesday. The police team reached Mr. Maudany’s residence by 9 a.m. The questioning continued till late evening. A crowd of supporters converged on the lane leading to his residence, as news spread that he was being questioned. Tense situationThere were tense moments in between as the crowd got restless after a television channel flashed the news that Mr. Maudany might be arrested. Even though some members of the crowd tried to stop mediapersons, they were pacified by PDP leaders. Suspect’s statementThe police team’s visit follows reports that terror suspect Sarfaraz Navas, who has been taken into custody by Kerala Police from Karnataka Police, confessing to having close association with Mr. Maudany. Navas and Sainuddin were the two terror suspects arrested by the Karnataka police in connection with the Bangalore bomb blast case. The questioning will continue on Thursday. Addressing the media, Mr. Maudany said he had been co-operating with the investigation because this is the only way to clear doubts cast on him. Answering a question, he denied having any association with Sarfaraz Navas.
