Water-borne diseases on the rise

ANANTAPUR: The incidence of water-borne seasonal diseases like gastroenteritis, diarrhoea, jaundice and others appear to be on the rise in the district this month with temperatures soaring along with the peaking summer. Seasonal scarcity of water was resulting in its contamination at sources and during the distribution. More than 1,000 cases of such water-borne diseases were reported in different parts of the district this month with Tadipatri, Gooty, Dharmavaram and Kalyanadurg areas accounting for majority cases. About 150 cases of gastroenteritis and diarrhoea were reported in Tadipatri town alone during the last one week. Cases of water-borne diseases were also being reported from Kalyanadurg, Beluguppa, Kanekal, Gooty, Narpala, Ramagiri, Chennekothapalli, Kanaganapalli, Battalapalli, Tadimarria, Mudigubba, Yadiki, Yellanuru, Putluru, Kadiri, Guntakal, Hindupur and Anantapur areas. Meanwhile, District Collector V. Anil Kumar has directed the medical and health department officials to take precautionary measures to prevent seasonal diseases like sunstroke, dengue, chikungunya, brain fever, jaundice, gastroenteritisand others.
