Jamia brings home laurels

The students of A J K Mass Communication Research Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi have been in the limelight lately for their achievements.

After two of the students beat contestants from 60 countries across the world to win the coveted World Photography Award at Cannes last month, another student, Dipu Shaw, has been selected to represent India at the 18th Foreign Correspondents’ P rogramme at Helsinki in Finland.

Dipu, a final year student of M.A. Convergent Journalism at MCRC, was chosen through an all-India selection process conducted by the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi for this prestigious programme.

“Newly graduated journalists or final year students of journalism from 19 countries have been invited to participate in the Foreign Correspondents’ Programme in August this year. For the third time in a row, an MCRC student has been selected to represent India at this programme,” said Rakhshanda Jalil, Director of Media and Culture at Jamia.

Established in 1982, MCRC has the distinction of producing some of the top names in the field of journalism, broadcast media, and films. Its illustrious alumni include Slumdog Millionaire co-director Lovleen Tandon, television actor Harsh Chayya and film directors Kabir Khan and Kiran Rao (wife of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan).

A delegation from Aligarh Muslim University met Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh in the Capital this past week to submit a memorandum highlighting “achievements” of Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis.

The delegation, which included elected representatives from different statutory bodies of the university such as the AMU Court, the Executive Council, the Academic Council and the teachers’ association, was led by an elected member of the Executive Council, Mujahid Beg. The members of the delegation expressed satisfaction over “constructive action” taken by Prof. Azis in streamlining the university in every sphere since he took charge in June 2007.

The delegation reiterated its demand for a CBI inquiry into the turmoil on the AMU campus in the past 20 years so that “the real culprits are brought to book”.

Students of Frameboxx institute in Gurgaon have won the “Best Student Short Film Award” in the Golden Cursor Animation Awards held this past week.

International Management Institute in association with Max New York Life has released the admission notification for a 40-week professional programme in insurance and sales management. The course is aimed at providing training for managerial careers in the insurance sector.
