Candidates with criminal record highest in Jharkhand

New Delhi: Jharkhand has the highest percentage of Lok Sabha aspirants in the electoral fray having criminal background.

Out of the total 171 candidates contesting in the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the State, 51 are having one or more criminal cases pending against them, according to a survey released by National Election Watch, a conglomeration of NGOs.

The percentage of such candidates is as high as 29.82 per cent in the State against a national average of 15 per cent, the Election Watch said.

The State has even left behind its parent state Bihar which followed closely with 27.57 per cent candidates with criminal background contesting from the State. --PTI
