No ramps in many booths in Kanyakumari

P.S. Suresh Kumar

NAGERCOIL. Many polling stations in Kanyakumari district did not have ramps. Physically challenged persons were put to hardship. If the voter was a woman even her husband was not allowed to help her vote (in Colachel, Thuckalay, Kanyakumari, Vendalicode and Kulasekaram)

Polling officials in different parts of the district did not cast their votes as they did not know the procedure.

Barring a minor incident at Thovalai, where there was a quarrel between the cadres of DMK and AIADMK over casting of votes, polling remained peaceful throughout the district. No long queues were seen in Muslim-dominated areas like Edalakudi, Thiruvithancode and parts of Colachel.

A 22-year-old girl from Charode near Padmanabhapuram, a first time voter, who did not want to reveal her identity, said that she cast her vote for a stable government, which could provide employment to the younger generation.
