MANGALORE: Gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs. 1.5 crore were stolen from a house near Telecom House at Pandeshwar here on Monday night. The theft took place in the house of M.R. Shetty, a doctor and secretary of Dr. M.V. Shetty Memorial Trust, according to the police. Dr. Shetty and his wife were in Bangalore when the theft took place, the police said. Thieves gained entry to the house by breaking open the back door and took away valuables kept in 10 almirahs in the ground floor and first floor, the police said and added that a laptop was also missing. The incident came to light when Dr. Shetty’s daughter came to the house on Tuesday morning. Mangalore South police have registered a case. AttackedDivya Dharshan, a resident of B.V. Road, was attacked by some people with an iron rod and other weapons at Highlands at 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Mr. Dharshan has been admitted to a hospital. Mangalore South Police have registered a case of rioting, criminal intimidation and attempt to murder.
