NEW DELHI: The re-poll at polling stations No. 12 and 13 in the Kasturba Nagar Assembly segment of the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat passed off without any hitch on Wednesday with 54.83 per cent of the 715 voters exercising their franchise.

One of the electors chose to exercise the option “not to vote” under Rule 49-O.

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer said polling took place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The re-poll had been ordered after it was found that 91 voters of polling station No. 12 and 141 of polling station No. 13 had cast their votes despite their names having been deleted from the electoral rolls under the “shifted” category.

The re-poll was ordered after the report of the Returning Officer of constituency indicated irregularities in the register of voters. An inquiry in the matter is under way.

Delhi’s CEO Satbir Silas Bedi said officials found guilty of dereliction of duty would be recommended for suspension. Meanwhile, preparations are now on for the counting of votes on May 16. For the seven Lok Sabha constituencies of Delhi, the counting will take place at eight places from 8 a.m.
