“Give full Statehood to Delhi”

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Leader of the House in the MCD, Subhash Arya, along with others members of the Bharatiya Janata Party have demanded full Statehood for Delhi to put an end to the problem of multiplicity of authority.

Reacting to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s recent remarks suggesting that the MCD be brought under the jurisdiction of the Delhi Government, Mr. Arya said: “This move cannot be implemented until a new Government is formed at the Centre and an amendment is made to the Constitution by Parliament.”

“Moreover, it has also been observed that those agencies that have previously been brought under the Delhi Government such as the Delhi Jal Board and the Delhi Transco Limited have not been able to provide satisfactory facilities. In such a scenario, we demand that Delhi be given full Statehood,” he said at a press conference here.
