MYSORE: The tradition of producing musical instruments, both classical and western, has been thriving in the city for the last 65 years. Sri Sharada Grand Musical Works, one of the oldest stores manufacturing and selling musical instruments, launched its exclusive showroom on Seebaiah Road here on Thursday. It had been functioning at Shivarampet since its inception. For the convenience of its customers, who include many non-resident Indians (NRIs), the proprietors opened the exclusive showroom which displays classical and western instruments under one roof. Says Satyanarayana M.G. of Sharada Grand Musical Works: “Our shop at Shivarampet will continue to function as a servicing unit. We have shifted to the new spacious premises for the convenience of our customers.” Sharada Grand Musical Works manufactures about 50 types of musical instruments. “Our shop is popular for veena instrument. We have customers from the U.S. and the U.K. We take orders online and ship them to the customers,” he said. On an average, 20 days are required to manufacture a musical instrument. “The instruments are readily available with us. The tabla, harmonium and mridangam are also popular,” Mr. Satyanarayana said.
