Vaiko urges Obama to save Tamils

CHENNAI: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko on Thursday appealed to United States President Barack Obama to take steps for saving Tamils in Sri Lanka. In a letter, Mr.Vaiko stated that Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa had ignored Mr.Obama’s call for a halt to “indiscriminate shelling.” In a separate statement, Pattali Makkal Katchi leader S.Ramadoss welcomed Mr.Obama’s expression of concern for the Tamils. He wanted India to take the help of the US, the United Kingdom and France in highlighting the Tamils question in international fora. — Special Correspondent
