Campaigning

While marvelling at our democracy and the magnitude of our electoral process, one is deeply saddened by the tone and tenor of our politicians. Slandering the opponent has become a permanent feature of politics. There seems to be no attempt to refrain from using the communal and caste card. Sadly, the elections to the 15th Lok Sabha, too, have demonstrated the decadence of our democracy.

Yasir Malik,

***

I listened to the speeches of the leaders of almost all major political parties and I must say they covered multiple issues in their campaign. Sadly, the media picked up the most insignificant parts of the speeches and relayed them continually. Anyone listening to this is bound to be frustrated with the system. I disagree with the argument that political parties abandoned the major issues. Only when the urban voter takes more interest in the elections will we see a surge in the voting percentage.

S. Sudhir Kumar,

Hyderabad
