Their hard work pays rich dividends

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: Special coaching classes, late night studies, high expectations from parents and teachers, nerve-racking board examinations and fear of marks. A year filled with hard work and tension came to an end on a positive and happy note for several students in Puducherry.

As the results of the standard XII board examinations were announced on Thursday, it was time to rejoice for several students, especially for the rank holders in government and private schools. In fact, the top three rank holders aim to pursue medicine.

For State topper P. Bala, year-long hard work definitely yielded the results. Securing 1,183 marks with centum marks in Maths, Chemistry and Biology did not come easy for this student of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School, who now aims to pursue medicine.

“My parents are elated. I am very happy for securing the first rank. My school provided good coaching and I want to take up medicine and have interests in specialising in surgery,” Bala said. His father was a retired engineer and mother, a doctor.

Achievement

V. Nisha, the second rank holder from St. Joseph of Cluny Girls Higher Secondary School, also wants to become a doctor. Ask what went into her achievement and she immediately replies, “There was constant hard work but a bit of relaxation too. The teachers were helpful and there was no need for tuitions.”

She secured centum marks in Chemistry, Biology and Maths. Her father, S. Venugopalan, a lab technician with the Vector Control Research Centre, is proud of the achievement. “She worked very hard. We did not even disconnect the cable network at home. Apart from studies, she is a good chess player and has participated in tournaments,” he noted.

It was proper attention in class that helped S. Divya Bharathi to reach this level.
