Water board denies insufficient supplies

Special Correspondent

Hyderabad: Water board officials are surprised at the complaints of insufficient supply of water to Bholakpur. This area is being especially concentrated on by providing more than 100 tankers every day and therefore there is no question of shortage of water, it is said.

The board’s record shows that after piped water supply was cut off to Bholakpur area on May 6, water was supplied through 156 tankers. On May 7, the number of tankers provided was 103, May 8 (101), May 9 (71), May 10 (99), May 11 (101), May 12 (167), May 13 (169) and May 14 (145).

Narrow lanes

Besides tankers, water is also being supplied through static tanks installed at Shekar Hospital junction, Dr. Samdani junction, Humera lane, Mandi gally, Parda galli and Tajirnagar. Bholakpur is full of narrow lanes and as such it is not possible for tankers to reach each and every house. Therefore, water is being filled in tanks and drums.

Apart from Bholakpur, the board is supplying nearly 2,000 tankers to various other slums and tail-end areas in the city. This is in addition to daily water supply. “This being summer, the demand for water is high but we can’t provide anything more,” said the board’s managing director, G. Ashok Kumar. Meanwhile, the board has laid a new pipeline to a length of 450 metres of the 500 metres proposed in Bholakpur.
