Thrissur
Thrissur: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said the social audit programme, currently being implemented in the treasury department, will be extended to all sections in the Finance Department, including those in the Secretariat. He was addressing a meeting here on Thursday of the chairmen of a jury appointed as part of the Treasury Social Audit Programme to scrutinise the service delivery system. The meeting aimed at drawing up an action plan on the basis of reports submitted by jury chairmen. A slew of measures are being taken to streamline the treasury department. A sum of Rs.30 crore will be spent for modernising it. Thirty treasuries will get new or additional buildings. The government has allotted funds for this in the budget. There are complaints about the efficiency and behaviour of the treasury staff. A six-month orientation programme is being conducted for them with the help of the Institute of Management in Government. “By next April, ATMs will be introduced to streamline transaction in treasuries,” he said.
