ARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS: Gokulnath, T.N. Vinisha and T.N. Shiji with their paintings at the Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery in Kozhikode. The works of three artists, including a sister duo, were exhibited at a joint painting expo organised by the Indian Youth Association (IYA) at the Akademi Art Gallery in Kozhikode. The show was organised in commemoration of Shinto and Subair, two young artists from Kozhikode who died 10 years ago. The exhibition features seven works of Gokulnath, including landscapes and figures in oil and acrylic, with a characteristic surprise element skilfully camouflaged in the images. His title ‘Reality and Illusion’ has the image of a woman hidden between two trees, which becomes noticeable only on a closer look. Sisters T.N. Vinisha and T.N. Shiji have exhibited 11 works, mainly images of man’s assault on nature and the different disposition of women. The cubic representation of a woman in one of Vinisha’s painting drew special attention for its richness of colours and multi-levelled portrayal of feminine identity. The frozen silence of snow-capped hills has been brilliantly depicted in one of Shiji’s paintings. The images of women in different manifestations recur in the works of the sisters besides their reflection and obsession with the human assault on nature and its slow bereavement. It was the debut exhibition of all the three artists. The show ended on Friday. Jabir Mushthari
