Settling things: Police trying to pacify employees of AFT Mill, who gathered in front of the police station, on Friday. — PUDUCHERRY: Workers belonging to the Anglo French Textiles on Friday staged a protest in front of Mudliarpet police seeking action against a section of AFT staff who allegedly assaulted them. According to police, a scuffle broke out between the staff and the workers on Thursday evening following a dispute over pay parity. The workers complained that they were physically assaulted by the staff and wanted the police take action against those responsible. Following an assurance from the government that it would look into the issue of pay parity and take action against those who assaulted them, the workers dispersed, the police said. Trouble was brewing on the AFT campus since the government decided to enhance the salary of the staff without considering a similar demand made by the workers, sources said.
