NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL) on Friday launched its latest hatchback Ritz that has been developed on the Swift platform and positioned at the premium-end of the compact car market. Available in five variants — three petrol and two diesel variants — the car comes with an introductory price tag of Rs. 3.90 lakh-Rs. 4.99 lakh.

Unveiling Ritz here at a press conference, MSIL Managing Director and CEO Shinzo Nakanishi said: “The Ritz combines modern European design, the sporty feeling of the Swift, the latest in engine technology and Suzuki’s globally acclaimed expertise in compact cars. Ritz further reiterates parent Suzuki Motor Corporation’s commitment to bring global car models with contemporary design, style and next generation fuel efficient, environment friendly engine technology for its customers in India.”

“Ritz, the first Bharat Stage-IV emission norms compliant Indian car, is our parent Suzuki’s fifth global model.

“The use of Swift’s platform has helped us to offer Ritz at a competitive price.

“Moreover, higher level of localisation has also helped us in reducing the cost,” he said.

Ritz comes with a brand new 1.2 litre K12M petrol engine delivering 85 PS power output and fuel efficiency of 17.7 km a litre, while the 1.3 DDiS diesel power-plant gives 75 PS power output and a mileage of 21.1 km a litre. The transmission system has been optimised to match Indian driving habits. The car has been equipped with latest safety and entertainment features.

Mr. Nakanishi said MSIL had been constantly expanding its portfolio in the competitive compact car segment. “India is a diverse market, no two customers think in the same way.

“We do not want to miss any opportunity in this segment,” he added.
