Training held for counting staff

Tight security provided at counting centres

KRISHNAGIRI/DHARMAPURI: Tight security has been provided at the counting centres in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts where the Electronic Voting Machines are being kept.

Barricades have been put up inside and outside the counting centres. Results will be announced every one hour and at the end of every round of counting through public address system.

On Friday, revenue officials and staff and some teachers in both the constituencies were given training on how to handle counting on Saturday.

As many as 252 counting personnel were given training at their respective Collectorates.

In addition, 174 (each constituency 87) Central government, PSUs, banks and Insurance staffs have been appointed as micro observers.

Each assembly segment will have 14 tables with one supervisor, assistant and an office assistant and each counting table will be monitored by a micro observer.

Each assembly segment will have computer facility with internet connectivity. At the end of the each round, officials have to upload the data to the website of the Election Commission.

Counting staff were advised not to use cell phones inside the counting centres and not to chat with the agents of the candidates. Counting figure should be entered in the register at the end of every round.

It would be the duty of the micro observers to verify that the counting figures were correct.

If anybody was found indulging in malpractice or dereliction of duty, they would be punished according to the law, they were told.

The counting staff would be given orders on Saturday at 5 a.m. after the allotment was randomised by the software given by the Election Commission of India.
