The French will soon have an opportunity to read the autobiography of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, ‘Wings of Fire’, in their own language. The French translation of the book is ready and will be released within a few weeks. The Puducherry-based publishers, Kailash Editions, is engaged in bringing out the translated book. Well-receivedA host of works translated from Indian languages to French and published by his publishing house have been received well by the aficionados of literature in France, according to Raj de Condappa, publisher of the book. Though the translation work of Mr. Kalam’s book had already been completed, he was awaiting a few pictures depicting different facets of the former President, he told The Hindu. Mr. Condappa, who has an Indo-French lineage, said the autobiography was expected to generate a lot of interest among the French readers, but he was unhappy because he could not get enough number of pictures depicting the diverse interests of the man who led the destiny of a country of 100 crores of people. The books of Indian authors translated into French and published by his publishing house include ‘Moon’s Gate’ authored by Dominique Sila Khan, ‘Possession’ by Kamala Markandaya and ‘Shifting Sands’ by Dominique Varma. Translated works‘My Story’ of Kamala Das, ‘Chemmeen’ of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai and ‘Sufi Paranja Katha’ of K.P. Ramanunny are among the translated Malayalam books published in French by the publishing house. The publisher is in search of more works in Malayalam, especially those that depict strong cultural bonds, to be translated into French. He is in touch with a few of the accomplished Malayalam authors. R. Ramabhadran Pillai
