NEW DELHI: Even as DU has increased the number of seats in each course by 36 per cent this year, V-C Deepak Pental on Friday admitted that the infrastructure in affiliated colleges was “not very good”. “The status is not very good. There has hardly been any increase in the infrastructure from last year. In my view, we should not have expanded (the number of seats) this year. But one does not want to play any games of brinkmanship,” he said. “I am meeting the college Principals to get their feedback on this issue. On one hand, one is asked to increase the seats, while on the other, others are not instructed to act in an urgent manner.” He said even though the Centre had released the financial grant this year to execute the expansion of seats in the wake of the OBC reservation, multiple authorities remained a big hurdle. “The grant release is not a problem. Getting instructions to start these projects is the problem. There are so many regulatory players involved in the process. All the Principals are facing clearance problems. The best situation would have been to have an organised clearance,” he said. The V-C also said that the University had not received a “matching grant” for the Delhi Government-run colleges. “The Delhi Government has not given us the money for the colleges run by it. I had given a proposal to the State Government over eight months ago. We will meet the Chief Minister again over the issue,” Prof. Pental added. Meanwhile, at a press conference earlier in the day, Proctor Gurmeet Singh said no vehicles sponsored by private institutes would be allowed to ferry students on the campus during the coming admission season and that barring the DUSU, no other private sponsor would be allowed to set up any counter on the campus.
