NEW DELHI: NDTV will launch on Saturday an English news and entertainment channel, ‘NDTV HINDU,’ for Chennai in partnership with The Hindu. NDTV and The Hindu have come together to launch Chennai’s first and only city-specific English news and entertainment channel, NDTV Ltd said in a statement. The channel will cover news, current affairs and other city information. “We firmly believe that the future of news is in going local. The Hindu Group, with its impeccable credentials, has been a household name for generations in Chennai, and this partnership will help NDTV HINDU capitalise on the brand strengths and journalistic values of both the media houses,” NDTV chairman Prannoy Roy said. Free-to-airThe free-to-air channel will telecast shows like ‘I Spy with My Digital Eye’ (aimed at students), ‘Super Shopper’ (for shoppers) and ‘Shift Focus’ (latest events). “Chennai is fast evolving as a cosmopolitan city. Though there are a few Indian language channels that exist for local news, there is no English channel catering exclusively to this vibrant city,” N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu, said. — PTI
