KOCHI: Eastern Condiments Private Ltd. (ECPL), the flagship company of the Eastern Group, has registered a topline growth of 41 per cent to Rs.280 crore in 2008-09 compared with the previous year, said Navas Meeran, vice-chairman, Eastern Group, here recently. Pan-India presenceThe Eastern Group expanded its pan-Indian presence by making its products available to nearly 450 towns in the country, he said. The expansion has been achieved by deploying a combination of direct distribution units as well as the conventional distribution model. During the year, the company also made impressive gains by launching ethnic products. These initiatives helped the company to clock a 72 per cent sales growth in States other than Kerala during the year. The exports division registered a 60 per cent growth as its products established a niche in more than 15 countries across the globe. The achievement in exports was crowned by bagging the Spices Board’s award for the “largest selling brand in blended spice powder in consumer packs” for the 10th year in a row. Taking a cue from its successful launch in the Kerala market, the ECPL recently launched tea under the brand name ‘Eastea’ in the southern States. Food and related products being in the essential products category, the recession has not adversely affected the group’s performance so far, Mr. Meeran said. “We are focussed to move ahead with plans to scale up in the value chain of food segment, which has immense potential in the near future,” he added.
