HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi attributed his poll debacle to paucity of time since he launched the party and said his leaders and cadres could not probably take the message of social justice across to the common man effectively.

Addressing presspersons on Saturday afternoon, he said they did not consider it a defeat.

“The limited seats that we got only showed that people were willing to at least give that space. It is just a beginning but not the end,” he said.

Asked how he viewed the dismal performance considering his firm belief of getting the magic figure and that he would break the record of the late N.T. Rama Rao, he quipped, “I was only optimistic. If not now, people will give us the chance next.” As for his perception of the United Progressive Alliance’s performance at the Centre, he said it only reflected people’s choice for stable governance and that it had a similar effect in the State too.

Fielding questions , he said the party would continue to strive to bring pressing problems of the people to the notice of the government and fulfil its role as an Opposition party. “I appeal to my cadres and leaders not to be disheartened. Please look at it in a positive manner, as a glass that is half full of water and not half empty,” he said.

On his future plans, the Praja Rajyam chief said he would take up consolidation of his party’s infrastructure after an internal review of the Praja Rajyam’s weaknesses and fixing exactly where they had gone wrong.

Throughout the day, Mr. Chiranjeevi was at his residence and constantly monitoring the flow of round-wise results, held meetings with senior leaders and party candidates.
