BJP State unit accepts defeat

Special Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: Bharatiya Janata Party State president Suresh Pujari on Sunday accepted the party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the State.

At a press conference here, Mr. Pujari, however, said that the party suffered defeat because it did not get enough time to prepare for the polls after the split in the alliance between their party and Biju Janata Dal.

He said that the party had also failed to get any credit for being in the government for the past nine years whereas the BJD took the entire credit for all the work done by the alliance government in the STate.

The BJP’s remaining in the alliance with the BJD was necessary for their party in New Delhi, Mr. Pujari said.

Mr. Pujari said the party would play the role of an Opposition party in the Assembly and take up the issues pertaining to the people in the House.

Mr. Pujari informed that the party leaders would meet here on May 19 to analyse the causes behind the party’s debacle in the recent polls.

Although the party contested all the 21 Lok Sabha seats and 147 Assembly segments, it won just six seats in the Assembly and failed to win even in single Parliamentary seat.
